- 1 small onion, peeled and chopped
- 175g carrots, peeled and chopped
- 200g potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 250ml low-sodium vegetable stock or water
- 50g sweetcorn (fresh or frozen)
- 1–2 tablespoons breast milk or prepared infant formula (if needed)
Method
- Melt the butter in a saucepan and gently sauté the onion for about 1 minute.
- Add the carrots and cook for a further 5 minutes.
- Stir in the potatoes, add the vegetable stock or water, cover, and simmer over a medium heat for approximately 15 minutes.
- Add the sweetcorn and continue cooking for another 5 minutes.
- Blend the mixture until smooth.
- Stir in breast milk or prepared infant formula if a thinner consistency is needed.
Helpful Tips
- Introduce one new food every 3–5 days to monitor for possible allergies or sensitivities.
- Do not add salt, sugar, honey, or stock cubes. Honey should never be given to babies under 12 months of age.
- Breast milk or prepared infant formula can be added to create a smoother consistency and a familiar flavour.
- Freeze leftover purée in ice cube trays. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to freezer-safe bags or airtight containers.
- Use frozen purées within 1–3 months for the best quality.
- Reheat until piping hot, then allow the food to cool before serving.
- Never refreeze thawed baby food.
Homemade baby food is a simple and affordable way to provide fresh, nutritious meals while introducing your little one to new flavours and textures.
