Ingredients
- 1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1 cup (100–120 g) grated cheese – cheddar, parmesan, gruyère, or a mix works perfectly
- 1 egg, beaten (for the golden shine)
- Optional but life-changing extras:
- ½ tsp garlic powder or dried herbs
- Pinch of sea salt & black pepper
- Pinch of paprika or cayenne for a kick
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 200 °C (400 °F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet (keep it on the paper it comes with for zero mess). Brush the entire surface lightly with beaten egg.
- Scatter the grated cheese evenly over the whole sheet. Add any seasonings you like — this is where the magic happens. Gently press the cheese down so it sticks.
- Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the pastry into 1–1.5 cm (½-inch) wide strips (long ways = longer twists, short ways = shorter ones).
- Take each strip and twist it 4–6 times, then place on the prepared tray. Brush the tops with a little more egg for extra golden crunch.
- Bake 12–15 minutes until puffed, crispy, and deep golden. They’ll smell insane — that’s how you know they’re ready.
- Cool for 2 minutes (if you can wait), then devour while hot and cheesy!
