Ingredients

  • 1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 cup (100–120 g) grated cheese – cheddar, parmesan, gruyère, or a mix works perfectly
  • 1 egg, beaten (for the golden shine)
  • Optional but life-changing extras:
    • ½ tsp garlic powder or dried herbs
    • Pinch of sea salt & black pepper
    • Pinch of paprika or cayenne for a kick

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200 °C (400 °F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  2. Unroll the puff pastry sheet (keep it on the paper it comes with for zero mess). Brush the entire surface lightly with beaten egg.
  3. Scatter the grated cheese evenly over the whole sheet. Add any seasonings you like — this is where the magic happens. Gently press the cheese down so it sticks.
  4. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, slice the pastry into 1–1.5 cm (½-inch) wide strips (long ways = longer twists, short ways = shorter ones).
  5. Take each strip and twist it 4–6 times, then place on the prepared tray. Brush the tops with a little more egg for extra golden crunch.
  6. Bake 12–15 minutes until puffed, crispy, and deep golden. They’ll smell insane — that’s how you know they’re ready.
  7. Cool for 2 minutes (if you can wait), then devour while hot and cheesy!

  • Pizza Twists: add 1–2 tbsp tomato paste under the cheese + oregano
  • Everything Bagel style: sprinkle everything seasoning on the egg wash
  • Sweet version: skip cheese, brush with egg + cinnamon sugar instead
