Makes: 5 tartlets
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 3 medium apples, thinly sliced
- 2 tbsp butter, melted
- 3 tbsp Huletts treacle sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp white sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
- 1 egg, beaten (optional, for glazing)
Method
- Preheat your oven to 200°C.
- Cut the puff pastry into 5 equal squares or circles, depending on your tartlet pans.
- Press each piece into a greased tartlet tin or place on a lined baking tray.
- Prick the bases a few times with a fork.
- Mix together the treacle sugar and cinnamon.
- Arrange the apple slices over each tartlet.
- Brush the apples with the melted butter.
- Sprinkle each tartlet generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Fold the pastry edges slightly over the apples if making rustic tartlets.
- Brush the pastry edges with beaten egg (if using).
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden and the apples are tender.
Optional Butter Glaze
While the tartlets are still hot, melt:
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 tbsp treacle sugar
Brush over the tops for a beautiful glossy finish.
Serve with
- Fresh cream
- Custard
- Vanilla ice cream
Tip: If you have apricot jam, warm 2 tablespoons and brush it over the apples after baking for a bakery-style shine. If not, the butter and sugar glaze works wonderfully too.
