Makes: 5 tartlets

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 3 medium apples, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 3 tbsp Huletts treacle sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp white sugar (optional, for extra sweetness)
  • 1 egg, beaten (optional, for glazing)

Method

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°C.
  2. Cut the puff pastry into 5 equal squares or circles, depending on your tartlet pans.
  3. Press each piece into a greased tartlet tin or place on a lined baking tray.
  4. Prick the bases a few times with a fork.
  5. Mix together the treacle sugar and cinnamon.
  6. Arrange the apple slices over each tartlet.
  7. Brush the apples with the melted butter.
  8. Sprinkle each tartlet generously with the cinnamon sugar mixture.
  9. Fold the pastry edges slightly over the apples if making rustic tartlets.
  10. Brush the pastry edges with beaten egg (if using).
  11. Bake for 20–25 minutes, until the pastry is puffed and golden and the apples are tender.

Optional Butter Glaze

While the tartlets are still hot, melt:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp treacle sugar

Brush over the tops for a beautiful glossy finish.

Serve with

  • Fresh cream
  • Custard
  • Vanilla ice cream

Tip: If you have apricot jam, warm 2 tablespoons and brush it over the apples after baking for a bakery-style shine. If not, the butter and sugar glaze works wonderfully too.
