Looking for a simple, wholesome meal that’s ready in just a few minutes? This Banana & Avocado Purée is naturally creamy, packed with nutrients, and requires no cooking, making it perfect for busy parents and growing babies.

Bananas provide natural sweetness and energy, while avocado is rich in healthy fats that support your baby’s growth and development. Together, they create a smooth, satisfying purée that’s ideal for introducing new flavours and textures.

Ingredients

  • ½ ripe banana
  • ½ ripe avocado
  • A splash of breast milk, prepared infant formula, or cooled boiled water (if needed)

Method

  1. Mash the banana and avocado together until completely smooth.
  2. If a thinner consistency is needed, stir in a small amount of breast milk, prepared infant formula, or cooled boiled water.
  3. Serve immediately.

Helpful Tips

  • Introduce one new food every 3–5 days to help identify any possible allergies or food sensitivities.
  • Do not add salt, sugar, honey, or stock cubes. Honey should never be given to babies under 12 months of age.
  • Breast milk or prepared infant formula can be mixed into the purée to create a familiar flavour and smoother consistency.
  • Freeze extra purée in ice cube trays. Once frozen, transfer the cubes to freezer-safe bags or airtight containers.
  • Use frozen purées within 1–3 months for the best quality.
  • Reheat until piping hot, then allow the food to cool before serving.
  • Never refreeze thawed baby food.

Because avocado oxidises quickly, this purée is best enjoyed fresh. If you need to store it for a short time, place it in an airtight container with a thin layer of lemon juice on top for older babies who have already been introduced to citrus, or cover the surface tightly with plastic wrap to minimise browning.

Homemade baby food is a wonderful way to introduce your little one to fresh, natural ingredients while building healthy eating habits from the very beginning.

Has your little one tried avocado yet? We’d love to hear which homemade purées have become family favourites.
